Completed January 2005
1131 Emery Road, Roberts Creek, BC, Canada
Set on approximately 20 acres of south-facing, gently sloped land with Clack Creek running along the eastern boundary. Housing is clustered on 8 acres, with the remaining land left undeveloped and protected by habitat covenants.
The community has 31 homes in a mix of styles – one bedroom duplexes, and two, three, and four bedroom single family homes. The 2840 sq. ft. common house includes a large kitchen, dining room, lounge, guest room, and children’s playroom. There is a separate fully equipped wood working shop and other common buildings to support the rural lifestyle.
The legal structure is bare land strata, providing individual lot ownership with common ownership of shared land and amenities — chosen to support alternative road and servicing standards in line with the project’s sustainability goals.
Ronaye Matthew’s company, Cohousing Development Consulting, provided development and community building services from January 2001 through completion in January 2005.
